Cleaning Fabric Shower Curtains

Shower curtains that are made from fabric are a great addition to every bathroom. Unlike plastic curtains, they are soft and move easily. This brings a new element into the bathroom decor and can soften the look and feel of the room. There are many fixtures in a bathroom that have a cold aspect to them. Sinks, bathtubs, and other fixtures seem hard, and can give the bathroom a rigid feel. Bringing one into the bathroom design softens the appearance and adds a touch of warmth.

There are numerous designs available to choose from, making shower curtains that are fabric are an excellent choice for all bathrooms. With feminine styles available, ranging in soft pastel colors with generously ruffled valances, to more modern and contemporary designs in bold geometric patterns, everyone can find one that appeals to their sense of style. However, when choosing one, it is important to select a material that will be easy to clean, durable, and able to withstand high humidity and exposure to water.

They should be paired with a plastic liner. The liner will sit inside the bathtub during bathing or showering, while the fabric curtain will remain on the outside of the tub. However, it is important to realize that the  curtain will continually be exposed to moisture and proper cleaning methods must be utilized to prevent the build up of mold and mildew. Plastic shower curtains can be laundered in a solution of equal parts of bleach and water to remove spots, stains, and mildew.

You might find that it is preferable to wash plastic shower curtains outside with a hose. Yet, bleach might be too harsh for your choice of fabric. Generally, just washing your fabric  in your washing machine will suffice to keep them clean and free of debris. If your curtains have delicate embroidery, stitching, or other elements that might cause them to be fragile, you might decide that having them professionally dry cleaned is the best solution.
